What is early intervention?
Early intervention is a system of services that helps babies and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities. Early intervention focuses on helping eligible babies and toddlers learn the basic and brand-new skills that typically develop during the first three years of life. Early intervention refers to services and supports that can help young children with developmental delays . It’s for eligible infants and toddlers who are behind at reaching developmental milestones.
What do early intervention services look like?
A child who qualifies may receive one or more of these services:
• Speech and language therapy
• Physical or occupational therapy
• Psychological therapy

New York Early Intervention Program
The New York State Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a public program for children under the age of three who are either suspected of having or at risk for developmental delays or disabilities. Potentially eligible children must be referred to their county’s municipality program to receive EIP services.
